Why do people want to become what others dream to be? Don’t they have any dreams of their own? Why are people driven by the presumptions and notion held by others? Why be driven by others?
I know that it’s easy to follow the norms, to follow the traditions and to live your life as anonymous. It doesn’t take any effort to go with the flow of water. Why fight the turbulence? But what will you achieve at the end of the day? I can’t figure.
When you break the norms you face resistance. Resistance from people, family, and sometimes even from yourself. But I believe it to be infinitely better to die fighting for a cause – whatever you deem to be appropriate – then to live the life of a sheep following a herd, without any individual identity. Life is not worth living the life of an anonymous person. And if you think you have no problems with that then it will be the greatest lie that you will ever tell yourself. You need to break free. We all need to break free.
Can you imagine that iPod in your pocket if Steve Jobs had not dropped out of his college to follow his dreams? You can’t. He followed his dreams and he is changing the world. Do you know Shahrukh Khan? If you are an Indian the answer is a definite yes and even in other cases the chances are that you have heard of him. Do you know that he cleared JEE and was all set to join IIT? Probably not. He chose his dreams over the dreams and advice of others (joining IIT and earning a fat paycheck) and look where he is.
Why can’t you do so? Why can’t you live your dream? It will not be all that romantic but then believe in yourself.
Believe.
